"Wake Me Up" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd. It was released on January 31, 2025 as one of the tracks from the artist's sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.

It is a synth-pop track produced with the French electronic duo Justice, interpolating or reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Release[]

The song was first overheard from the set of the Hurry Up Tomorrow film and was first thought by fans to be have been made exclusively for it.

On January 7, 2024 an early version of the track leaked online in CDQ. Months later, the finished intro for it made an appearance in the third Hurry Up Tomorrow teaser, "Unprepared certainty...".[1] Tesfaye performed the song during his September 7 one-night-only in São Paulo, Brazil, and later again during the Australian shows of the After Hours Til Dawn Stadium Tour.

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
All I have is my legacy
I been losing my memory
No afterlife, no other side
I'm all alone when it fades to black
Fades to black
No afterlife, no other side
I'm all alone when it fades

[Refrain]
There's no heavenly
Where are you now?
I know death’s easy
Woah-oh

[Verse 1]
Sun is never rising
I don't know if it's day or night
I can't find the horizon
I'm running out of time

[Pre-Chorus]
Are you real or are you an illusion?
'Cause I fear your love is my delusion

[Chorus]
Wake me up, come find me
It feels like, I'm dying
Wake me up, these demons
Keep breathin', don't fear it
Wake me up

[Post-Chorus]
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh

[Verse 2]
It's comin' to the wire
I'm feelin' like I'm paralyzed
Cleanse me with your fire (Hey!)
Open up my eyes

[Pre-Chorus]
Are you real or are you an illusion? (Are you real)
'Cause I fear your love is my delusion (Ooh)

[Chorus]
Wake me up, come find me
It feels like I'm dying (Ooh-woah)
Wake me up, these demons (These demons)
Keep creeping (Keep creeping), don't fear 'em (Ooh-woah)
Wake me up, 'cause I'm trying (I'm trying)
This sleep is (This sleep is) paralyzing (Oh)
Wake me up, 'cause I'm dreaming (I'm dreaming)
It feels so (Hey) damn real (Hey)
Wake me up

[Outro]
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh

Trivia[]

  • The leak featured an open verse in its intro. However, the September 7 version included an intro previously heard in one of the Hurry Up Tomorrow teasers.[2]
    • The demo's production is also less developed in some places.
    • This version often gets copyright struck online, and can be hard to find.
