Scrapped 2022 album is a placeholder name for an unreleased studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd. It was made in 2022, and was intended to be Tesfaye's sixth studio album, until its replacement by Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Background[]
In the January 2025 interview with Variety, Tesfaye revealed that very shortly after Dawn FM, he began working on his sixth studio album, which was mostly finished by September 2022. During the After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour show at the SoFi stadium on September 3, Tesfaye lost his voice halfway through "Alone Again", and cancelled the show immediately.[1]
With major disappointment from those attending, this moment took a major mental toll on Tesfaye, and alongside "other things [that] happened after", it gave him new inspiration and scrapped what he made before, going back to the drawing board and starting all over again.[1]
“ | [...] Because this was a really important, pinnacle moment in my life. How could it not be? And as an artist, you’re telling a story, so you get under the hood and try to figure out what’s going on. In the process, I got closer, and I became more grateful — I know it sounds cliché and soft or whatever, but it’s the truth. I’ve been working on myself to not push people away. | ” |
–Abel Tesfaye, "The Weeknd on the ‘Breakdown’ That Inspired His ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Album and Film, and Why He Might Retire the Weeknd: ‘It Never Ends Until You End It’" |
It's unspecified what songs would be on the record, or if any songs from this album made it on Hurry Up Tomorrow, but it's unlikely.
Trivia[]
- The "other things that happened after" could refer to the major backlash Tesfaye received from The Idol in 2023, although this is unconfirmed.
