"Runaway" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd. It was released on January 31, 2025 as a bonus track on the 00XO edition of the artist's sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Background[]
The song was previewed in one of the teasers for Hurry Up Tomorrow, "Unprepared certainty…", alongside the intro to "Wake Me Up".[1] Tesfaye performed the song live during his September 7, 2024 one-night-only in São Paulo, Brazil. Its title was leaked through a picture of the set list emerging online.[2] Although originally expected to be a part of the standard tracklist, it was ultimately released as the second bonus track on the 00XO Digital edition of the record. The "First Pressing" version features different production elements, and is overall mixed differently.
The track is a personal, fully acoustic ballad, something Tesfaye hasn't done since 2011's "Rolling Stone".
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
You can change locations
You can change your name
They will always find a way
Turn your life to nightmares
Ready for the chase
They will always find a way
[Chorus]
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
[Verse 2]
You can ask forgiveness
Even when you pray (They will always)
They will always find a way
My mama told me
It’d never be the same (They will always)
They will always find a way
(Run, run away, run away)
(Run, run away, run away)
[Chorus]
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
[Bridge]
I'm driving through the night
No need for tears
As long as your inside of me
The whispers in my ears
They are so clear
We're safe in the afterlife
Never, never let you get away
[Chorus]
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
Ooh-ooh-ooh, run away
[Outro]
Run away, run away
